4-Letter Friday: FREE Fun in Las Vegas

Beth Ellyn Rosenthal, eXp Realty

It’s National Finals Rodeo week in Las Vegas. Yee haw.

Fans from all over the planet are back in Las Vegas for their annual rodeo fix. NFR week is actually 10 days of cowboy fun. The entire town goes country–even the backjack dealers sport their Western best.

Alas, tickets to the actual performance at the Thomas and Mack Center are spendy; you can see a Cirque show or Boyz II Men for less. But almost every hotel on the Las Vegas Strip has a NFR viewing party. And these are FREE. Many of the parties include live music after the performance.

Here are MY three favorites:

1. MGM Grand. The rodeo performance viewing party is in the David Copperfield Theater. (Cushy seats.) Then head out to the Gold Buckle Zone for live music and dancing until 2 am. (The music actually starts at 5 pm if you want to miss the team roping.)

2. South Point Hotel, Spa and Casino: There are live broadcasts in the Showroom and the Grandview Lounge. But I prefer to head upstairs to the Grand Ballroom for the RAM Rodeo Viewing Party. You sit at round tables of 8, so you get to chat with folks from everywhere. There are prizes and games during the commercials. And there are RAM trucks to swoon over. (Although I’m not trading my Tundra for anythin’.)

The NFR Go-Round Buckle Ceremony starts at 11. Watch the winners of the night’s performance get their prize buckles from my favorite rodeo entertainer, Flint Rasmussen. If you have never have watched Flint in action, well, he’s rodeo’s Jerry Seinfeld. Hilarious. And he can dance Chippendale-style too.A

3. Silverton Las Vegas. They teamed up with country radio station 102.7 The Coyote for viewing parties at Veil Pavilion, a billowy permanent tent on the property that doubles as a concert venue. The Silverton has booked live Texas bands after the performance, because, hey, you can’t make real country music if you aren’t from Texas. This week-end Jolie Holliday and Sonny Burgess get the foot stompin’ going. Oh, the after parties include bikini bull riding.

102.7 The Coyote | #1 For New HIT Country!

You can take the girl out of Texas but you can’t take Texas out of the girl. I was a city slicker when I first arrived in Dallas, where I was shocked to learn rodeo is a fall letter sport in the local high schools. Yessum, this Ivy Leaguer is now hooked! And you may be too after your first bull riding event…

Have a great week-end, Las Vegas.
