The best part about actually being at a rodeo is the sights, sounds and smells. It’s a visceral thing…which you don’t get when you sit at a Las Vegas casino watching party. But alas, the tickets to the National Finals Rodeo can equal a car payment.

So, yours truly has a FREE solution for you. If you can live without bull riding, how about seeing the team roping action? The Ariat World Series of Team Roping events are FREE at the South Point Arena.
What is team roping? Two cowboys on horseback have to wrastle a young steer. The header ropes the horns of the steer, wraps the rope around the saddle horn and then turns the steer to the left. The heeler then ropes the steer’s legs. They who do it in the fastest time win.

This is the only rodeo event where men and women can compete together.
Tomorrow’s action starts at 8 am with the Western Finale starting at 3:45 pm and beginning again Sunday at 8. Sunday is the last day.
Utah’s Hank Robins and Colton Robins picked up the biggest paycheck in the history of the sport this afternoon. They won $376,00!!! So this be a serious sport my friends.
If the Clydesdales are more your style of horse, you can see them at the South Point too but not until next Thursday. You can take photos with Budweiser’s stately steeds from noon to six pm at the Priefert Pavilion. (Prierfert are the folks that make the corrals and bucking chutes).

Oh, Santa will be there too AND Wes Winters will be singing Christmas songs. All FREE even the Budweiser! Yep, you read that right. FREE beer! That’s because if you want to have Christmas with the Clydesdales, FREE beer really helps!
If football is more your thing, the Las Vegas Bowl is tomorrow. Fresno State and Arizona State are holding a pep rally today at 6 pm. Cheerleaders, mascots and the Powell Brothers all perform on the First Street Stage at the Fremont Street Experience. This is also FREE except for the parking! Yep, I’m always going to get a dig in on locals paying for parking.
