When I was growing up in the 1960s, summertime meant going to the drive-in movies. (I always wished we had a convertible.) Alas, those days are long gone. But seeing movies outside is still au courant in Las Vegas, even if the temperature cools down to 99 after sundown (like it did yesterday.)

The nation’s first drive in movie theater. It’s in New Jersey. The year: 1933
Here are two FREE outdoor movie options this week-end. Both are in Henderson (far away from the traffic jams at the Electronic Daisy Carnival):
- The Outdoor Picture Show series at The District at Green Valley Ranch. Movies start this Sunday and run through Halloween. Sunday’s movie is “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” The film starts at 7. Be on time because there are no trailers.
- Green Valley Library is showing “American Sniper” tomorrow at 2.
$5 is almost FREE, right? Here is another option for Las Vegas family fun. Also in Henderson.
- Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool is screening “Finding Nemo” tomorrow night. The movie starts at 7:30. This is part of the city of Henderson’s Dive-In Movie Series. The city is rotating the location of this series, so each of its pools will be hosting a show. For example, “Frozen“ will be at the Henderson Multi-Generational Activity Pool July 3 and you can see “The Lion King” on August 7 at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex.
We’re off the the movies, Las Vegas. Have a great week-end.
