Happy St. Patrick’s Day Las Vegas. Aren’t we glad the celebration fell on a Friday this year?
I grew up in Chicago during the 1950s when Mayor Richard Daley dyed the Chicago River green.
One of the greenest celebrations in Las Vegas today is downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. It’s the annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration & Firefighter Challenge.
The parade leaves the Fremont Street Main Stage at noon. Firefighters from all over America will be marching in the parade (who wouldn’t love a week-end in Las Vegas after the parade? Just sayin’.) The Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Local 1285 Honor Guard and Pipe & Drums Corp will provide the appropriate music.
If you can’t make the parade at noon, you can watch or participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Firefighter Games, which follow the parade. They include:
- A wheelbarrow race
- A 5-inch hose drag
- Hose bowling
- A bucket brigade
- A tug-of-war
Sounds way too much fun. And all those muscle-ly firemen. But I digress.
I did mention all this Las Vegas fun is FREE, right?
