When the new century dawned in Las Vegas, the hottest place to be on Saturday night was the Fontana Room at the Bellagio. There Jimmy Hopper and his band rocked the room on the center Strip, taking breaks when the Bellagio Fountains rocked the skies. (The room’s balcony is in wet zone, making it the perfect vantage point.)

Then he left for California. But now the talented singer, who still wears mascara and dark nail polish better than me, has returned to his Vegas roots. Tonight and tomorrow night he’ll be performing FREE at the Lounge at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. He has a repertoire from Frank Sinatra to Bruno Mars with a voice as smooth as velvet. But he can rock the room, too.

I’ve paid to see him … often. Now you can do that for FREE. Show starts at 9:30.

The best part: You can park at the Trop for free. How’s that for Old Vegas?
