The Academy Awards are around the corner.  Many of the Las Vegas casinos actually have Academy Awards parties a la the Super Bowl.

Here’s a free event every Friday until the Academy Awards air. The Green Valley Library is hosting an Academy Awards film series every Friday afternoon starting with today! Every film shown won Best Picture in its year. As the library slogan says, this is “literally the place to be.”

Here’s the line-up.The lights go down at 2.

Today: Ben-Hur

February 13: All About Eve

February 20: Titanic

February 27: Mary Poppins

This being Las Vegas, there will be a contest too. Attendees can make predictions on who will win an Oscar this year. The winner will receive a prize in his or her own awards ceremony in Henderson March 7.

And who are you going to vote for?

Oh, and did I say all the movies are free?
