Hey, Las Vegas: Let’s go to the lake this week-end.
You listening Boston? Now that the temperatures in Las Vegas are in the high 70s (78 tomorrow), it’s a perfect time to boat, hike, bicycle, kayak, fish, run and sun at Lake Mead National Recreational Area. Or visit Hoover Dam, now that you don’t have to drive across it to get to Arizona.
So why am I mentioning getting out in nature this week-end for 4-Letter Friday? Because the federal government, shockingly, has made a good decision, declaring entrance to the area is FREE February 14-16 in honor of President’s Day. What’s more, Uncle Sam is doubling the entrance fee this summer, so you’re getting twice as much free. (I obviously wasn’t a math major…)
Lake Mead NRA is one of America’s favorite national playgrounds; the National Park Service places it in the Top 10 National Parks. It contains two lakes, a dam, a bridge, the Colorado River, cliffs, slot canyons (not slot machines) and 1.5 million acres of land.
Put on the sun screen, Las Vegas, and enjoy. Because we locals know soon enough it will be too damn hot. (That’s a quote from Cole Porter.)
