Today 36,564 participants in 22 different countries will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson. You have two options to participate this morning, on both the east and west sides of town.
If you live in the Southwest, head to Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas. The FREE 30-minute swimming lesson for folks of all ages starts at 9:30 am in the Red Rock Bay wave pool. Afterwards you can enjoy all the slides and attractions for FREE too. I repeat: tomorrow morning you can enjoy Wet ‘n’ Wild for FREE!
Alas, only 400 people can participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
If you live on the south side of town, the City of Henderson wants to beat out those 36,000-plus participants too. Its FREE lesson starts at 8 am at the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Complex.
The real goal of the day is to teach people how to swim to prevent accidental drownings. Since so many homes in Las Vegas have pools, knowing how to swim is a must for safety as well as fun.
Did you know back in the 1970s you couldn’t graduate from Yale until you passed the swimming test, which was 10 laps in the pool? I always hated putting my face in the water, so I did the side stroke to get my degree!
It’s going to be 115 tomorrow, so getting wet sounds like a great idea, Las Vegas.
