Free Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

A lot of America may be buried in 60 inches of snow. Las Vegas is currently enjoying a balmy 66 degrees. Welcome week-end!

Las Vegas, one of the entertainment capitals of the world, also offers some of the priciest entertainment. It is my job, loyal readers, to find FREE things for you to do this glorious week-end.

And since this IS Las Vegas, here we go. Buckle up!

Watch the Raiders Pull Off Another Miracle (Strip)

There are four screens this size at the Beer Garden Photo: MGM Resorts International

Was that a game or what? My heart was pounding during overtime.

Let’s hope the team has enough juju to do it again tomorrow.

Last week I told you about my favorite place to watch sports. http://offthevegasstrip.com/free-fun-in-las-vegas4-letter-friday-6/. I LOVE sitting on the patio because I can bring my dog. (All y’all know I’m the dog Realtor of Las Vegas.)

But Lazy Dog has a neighborhood feel because, well, it’s in a neighborhood. The Bud Light Luxor Beer Garden is definitely a more uptown venue to scream your head off because it’s on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Beer Garden experience is FREE, Raiders fans. (Yeah, you do have to pay for parking.)

The Beer Garden opens its doors four hours before kick-off. The goal is to create a tailgate party, Vegas-style.

There are food trucks! Drink specials! Before the game and during commercial breaks there is live entertainment. This being Vegas, you know it will be top-notch because the singers and performers want a bigger gig with MGM Resorts.

The Beer Garden is across from the Luxor at the corner of the Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue. If you have an actual ticket to the game, you can hike to the Stadium on foot.

Watch Undercover Boss and Learn About Vegas (Your home)

The Fremont Street Experience is indeed an experience

All y’all know how Undercover Boss works. The show sends the CEO, disguised as one of us, to work the basic jobs of the company. At the end, s/he brings the viewers to tears as they give a big check to one cherished and shocked worker who went over and above.

Tonight’s episode features Andrew Simon. Who he? you ask. He’s the CEO of the Fremont Street Experience. He mopped Fremont Street, scrapped yucky gum from the trash cans and buckled passengers into the SlotZilla zip line that flows above the streetscape.

Then he (probably) swallowed his fear of heights and changed the light bulbs in the VistaVision canopy pictured above. (Who knew they constantly changed those LED bulbs. I thought they lasted for years.)

Even locals will learn a lot about one of our favorite spots in Las Vegas.

The last time the show featured a Vegas exec was eight years ago when Scott Sibella was the CEO of the MGM Grand.

The show airs on CBS at 8 tonight. Then it will stream on Paramount+.

Listen to FREE Jazz at a Comedy Club

The Lounge at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club

Tonight Gabriel Rutledge is the headliner along with Jason Cheny and John Caponera. Seeing the show is NOT FREE. Tickets are $105 each.

However, the music in the Lounge is FREE. Tonight and tomorrow night the Doug Taylor Trio with Laura Shaffer perform. Taylor’s keyboards are the basis for the trio’s jazz sound.

The Club used to be in the basement-you know the subterranean mall space attached to the parking garage. During the pandemic the club moved upstairs to the District. Gorgeous brand new digs.

Comedy starts at 8, so the trio plays from 6 to 7:50. Then they hang around after the show because the bands strikes up at 9:15.

There is a one-drink minimum and you do have to be 21.

Have a great week-end Las Vegas!
