FREE Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

Happy New Year! Yep, Las Vegas is celebrating both the Lunar and Mongolian New Years. And both the NFL and the NHL are in town to do their thing.

Many entertainment opportunities are spendy. So it’s my job to suss out the FREE things to enjoy in this ah-maz-ing place.

Here we go. Buckle up!

The NHL is here!!!!! Watch the Player Play Crazy (Las Vegas Strip)

Vegas welcomes the NHL All-Stars. Logo: NHL

Welcome to the National Hockey League’s All-Star Game week-end. The game itself is Saturday afternoon. Not FREE. Tickets start at $252.

I proudly note that four Las Vegas Golden Knights players are suiting up. Go Knights Go!

The Bellagio Fountain is the place to be for the FREE fun.

There will be two crazy events. The Fountain Face-off requires shooters hit five targets in the fountain. The NHL players get five attempts. I assume the goalies aren’t really good at this.

21 in ’22 is a new game, Las Vegas style. The players shoot at 52 oversized playing cards trying to get blackjack. This game requires math skills too which is why always play craps!

The NFL is here too! Watch the Player Practice (Summerlin)

We welcome the footballers too! Logo: NFL

The game is at noon Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Tickets are much cheaper: from $112.

You can see both teams practice FREE! They need to practice because hey, they’ve never played WITH these guys before.

The teams are playing at Las Vegas Ballpark where our beloved Las Vegas Aviators play baseball and where yours truly does yoga on the field in the summer. The teacher is on that126-foot wide LED video screen. But I digress.

The AFC team practices Saturday morning at 10 am. The NFC team practices at 11:30 am.

I’ve never watched a professional football team practice, but I have watched the Las Vegas Golden Knights practice while eating some of the best pizza in town at Mackenzie River Pizza Grill, the restaurant upstairs from the ice rink at City National Arena. The windows open so you breathe the same air.

This is a small, cozy stadium, so you are going to get an up-close look at your favorite players.

How about a hat trick of Las Vegas elite sports competitions?

Head over to the South Point Arena for “The Vegas Shoot.” It is a archery tournament sponsored by the National Field Archery Association. And yes, it’s FREE.

Young archers from all over the world compete for $24,000 in archery scholarships.

Valentines Day is just two weeks away. So watch how these pros do it!!!!

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at Spring Festival (Southwest)

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger. Poster: Clark County

It’s the first annual Spring Festival at the Desert Breeze Community Center.

Sunday from 11 to 2. FREE! The festival celebrates Asian culture.

It’s the Lunar New Year. Live performances on the outdoor stage include:

  • Nevada Chinese Association Performers
  • Las VEgas Chinese Dance Academy
  • Lohan School of Shaolin
  • Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko

Lita Chen performs on the indoor stage.

There will be food trucks and arts and crafts for purchase.

Clark County Parks & Recreation, the Asian Community Resource Center and NCA are sponsoring the event.

Garth Brooks is in town if you want to spend big bucks.

Happy New Year, Las Vegas.
