FREE Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a song for Sunset Boulevard (you know I love musical theater) called “As if we never said good bye.” The lyrics remind me of Las Vegas entertainment today. We are back! It’s like these %$$#@ two years never happened. As if we never said good bye!

Las Vegas entertainment can be expensive. Orchestra seats for Brad Paisley at Wynn Las Vegas are relatively affordable: just $336 a ticket. (He puts on an ah-mah-zing show. Go for it!)

Fortunately Las Vegas has a deep bench. It is my job, loyal readers, to share with you the FREE things to do in Las Vegas.

Buckle up. ‘Cause here we go!

Watch the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade (Henderson)

More fun than a pot of gold (almost) Drawing: City of Henderson

On March 1, 2019 a four-month-old special needs Irish setter showed up at my front door in the rain. You know me. Dog lover. I took this difficult creature in.

My friend Cindy Lang suggested I call the Irish Setter Club of Las Vegas for help. Help they did. And they invited me to join the club in the Henderson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Club members march these beautiful creatures in the parade.

Puppy Gracie was a hit since she is sooo crazy. (not such a hit a home….) She was so tired after the parade she slept for hours. But I digress.

This week is the 54th year the city of Henderson hosts its St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade.

The luck of the Irish starts Friday when the carnival opens at 5 pm.

Tomorrow the parade starts at 10 and goes to noon. (Cheer on the Irish Setter Club. Promise? We won’t be there because I am welcoming my first guest at my new short-term rental by the Mandalay Bay.)

After the adorable dogs, check out the car show. Car collectors from all over the valley drive in the parade and then park and let you drool. We waited by the kewl cars in the staging area. Yes, I do remember those 1960 muscle cars!

The car show starts after the parade ends at noon and goes to 5.

Sunday the festival opens at noon and ends at 4.

So what happens at the festival? Glorious Irish dancing and live Irish music. A different group every 40 minutes.

Everything is FREE except the Irish whiskey tasting.

Listen to Live Jazz (Downtown)

The Historic Westside Legacy Park Photo: City of Las Vegas

The Historic Westside Legacy Park has always been a vibrant hub of black culture. My rental in North Las Vegas is not far from the neighborhood and I have joyfully explored it.

The park has a a famous Concert Series. The founders invite local performers who have made a “long-lasting impact” on West Las Vegas.

Saturday afternoon at 2 features another installment. This time rhythm-and-blues singer Cameron Calloway performs with his band.

Of course this concert is FREE, thanks to the support from the National Endowment of the Arts. They don’t fun just anybody, people.

Lick Some FREE Ice Cream (West)

It’s ice cream weather in Las Vegas

A new ice cream shop near me is called Sorry, Not Sorry Creamery. (Love that name ’cause that’s how I feel when I savor the cold silkiness of a high-end ice cream.)

The store holds its grand opening Saturday at noon. The first 10 people through the door will receive FREE ice cream for a year. I am trying to displace less water, so that won’t be me, making more room for you.

But everyone gets a buy one, get one scoop all day.

Sorry, Not Sorry makes small batch ice creams. I wonder what black pepper strawberry balsamic tastes like. Think it has any sugar????

Have a great week-end, Las Vegas.
