Dua Lipa. Carrie Underwood. Keith Urban. The Scorpions. Dionne Warwick. All these awe-some entertainers have shows this week-end. But, my friends, they are pricey.
Thankfully Las Vegas has a deep bench of entertainment talent. And this town is built on FUN. It is my job, dear readers, to find FREE fun things to do in Las Vegas this week-end.
Buckle up ’cause here we go.
Enjoy a doughnut. Win a ticket to see Machine Gun Kelly (Valley wide)

Today tickets to see Machine Gun Kelly with Avril Lavigne go on sale. The show is July 15. These tickets are NOT free.
However, if you like doughnuts and want to see the show FREE, buy a doughnut at any PinkBox location in Las Vegas today. The MGK-themed doughnut, specifically. Some of them have a winning ticket inside the finger-licking good dough. Trade that ticket for two FREE tickets to the concert at T-Mobile Arena.
If you are not a local, here’s the 411 on PinkBox. It’s a local company that makes Texas-sized doughnuts. They are known for their themes. During hockey season, you can get a Vegas Golden Knights doughnut. At graduation time, there are special graduation doughnuts.
My fav is actually a cronut. It’s called the Blue Face DoughCro ’cause it’s laced with fresh blueberries.
The creator of these doughnuts is clever as well as a sugar meister.
The shops have a 24-hour drive-through window, so you can get your fix after a wild night on the Las Vegas Strip even though the store itself is closed.
And of course, buy more than one and they come in a pink box!

Drool over kewl boats (Lake Mead)

Did all y’all know I had a boat on Lake Mead? A 24-foot Bayliner single screw. It was at Callville Bay Marina until it dried up a few years ago.
I loved looking up at the azure blue sky and the rocky cliffs as we cruised by. And boating up near Hoover Dam was a trip.
And I loved the drive through the desert to get to the marina. Sigh.
Well, I sold my cabin cruiser after 20 years but I still love boating.
This week-end is the “On The Water” boat show at Lake Mead Marina. The marina is selling all its watercraft at this event.
You can test drive these boats if you make a deposit in advance. https://boatinglakemead.com/boatshow-2022/
If you just want to spend a day at the lake and watch the boats, know the marina is selling ice cold beer for $1.
The boat show cranks up between 11-5 today and tomorrow and from 11 to 4 on Sunday.
Don’t forget your life jackets!
Enjoy a chili cook-off (Pahrump)

All y’all know I spent 23 years in Dallas before I moved to Las Vegas in 2001. So chili cook-offs are in my blood. If you’ve never been to one, well, you must once!
The Nevada State Chili Cook-off is Sunday in Pahrump. The state’s best cooks are facing off. Does real chili have meat? How spicy? These are existential chili questions. (for which I have no answer….)
Head out to Petrack Park off Highway 160. The event goes from 9 to 4 and includes live entertainment. There will also be a car show and a car auction. Plus a horseshoe tournament!
The chili tasting is from 11:30 to 2:30.
Admission is FREE but you do have to pay for the chili samples. But all the money goes to the Pahrump School District. That’s worth getting heartburn over.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
