OMG. Where to start? The NFL Draft is in town. There are many FREE offerings. But if you’re not into football, there are so many other FREE events in town this week-end. And why not? This is Vegas!
Entertainment in Las Vegas can be spendy. Lady Gaga’s jazz show returns this week-end. I saw it before the pandemic. I sat in the second-to-last-row in the balcony and still paid $425. (It was worth every penny. Go!)
But it’s my job to find you, my loyal readers, FREE things to do in Las Vegas this week-end. Buckle up ’cause here we go!
The NFL Draft Is Here! (Strip)

The NFL Draft Experience is the primo NFL Draft FREE event. It’s an interactive football theme park located behind THE LINQ. There’s literally one million square feet of NFL fun.
You can see Super Bowl Rings and the Raiders’ Vince Lombardi Trophies from Super Bowls XI, XV and XVIII.
Then there’s the Draft Theater where the prospects take the stage to celebrate membership in their new teams. This is standing room only, so get there early.
At the conclusion of each day, the NFL will host FREE concerts in the Draft Theater (thanks Bud Light for footing the bill.) The headliners are Weezer, Ice Cube and Marshmello. (To this boomer, that sounds like some fancy cocktail you’d find in a high-end bar.)
Entering registers you for prizes, including the grand prize: two tickets to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona!
You do have to register for a pass to attend these FREE events: Here is the link:
Or just wander down Las Vegas Boulevard by the Bellagio, which is named Draft Drive through Monday. It’s worth it to see the stage the Las Vegas workers built over the fountains. Scuba divers were there to make it happen.
(If you see O, be sure to get a seat in the balcony because you can watch the scuba divers in the water. But I digress.)
There’s a drone show featuring 300 drones that display the logos of all 32 NFL clubs. The drone show happens over the Bellagio fountain stage.
If you don’t want to battle the crowds at the Bellagio, then head to any of the Las Vegas Strip casinos. Ellis Island Casino & Brewery, for example, is hosting FREE NFL Draft viewing parties each night. There will be a live DJ and giveaways.
P.S. If you visit the Las Vegas Welcome sign, it looks different this week-end. It’s now black and silver, our Raiders colors.
Military & Veterans Appreciation Night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (North)

Las Vegas appreciates its military and veterans. Airmen and women serving at Nellis Air Force Base are our neighbors.
Tomorrow night the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is inviting all active-duty military and veterans along with their families to see NASCAR short-track racing. Up to four people get in FREE.
The races include:
- Pro Late models
- Modifieds
- Outlaw Factory Stocks
- Legends
- Bandoleros
- Super Stocks
- Skid Plates
There’s an autograph session on the track at 5:45.
If you have to pay for a ticket, it’s only $10 at the gate. And kids under 12 get in FREE every race week-end. Got to get them into NASCAR early!
And unlike the baseball, hockey and football venues here in Vegas, the Speedway has fan-friendly food. The hot dogs, beers and Coke products only cost $3.
Movies in the Park Are Back! (North Las Vegas)

The film is Raya and The Last Dragon. It’s a Disney movie. But let’s keep the politics out of it and enjoy a great film, OK?
The computer-animated fantasy adventure includes Awkwafina, Sandra Oh and Daniel Dae Kim, among others. What is not to love?
Movie Madness in North Las Vegas starts tonight at 6. The site is Aliante Nature Discovery Park at the 215 and North Aliante Parkway.
The event is FREE.
You have to bring your own blankets and chairs. Bring your own coolers and picnic baskets or buy food and drinks from vendors. No alcohol or smoking allowed because there are kids there!
Hear The Spazmatics (North)

One of my favorite kewl music venues is Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station. It’s intimately small. But the sound system is huge.
Tonight The Spazmatics take the stage. They boast they recapture the best of the worst of the 1980s. The skinny ties. Horn-rimmed glasses. Brill cream hairdos.
But they are masters at recreating the 1980s sound. I actually love music from the 80s. Listen to that station on my Sirius XM radio. They are truly a hoot to watch and a marvel to listen to.
The show is FREE.
Tomorrow night Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters take over Chrome. This show is not free. But the tickets are only $50, which is inexpensive by Vegas standards.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
