FREE Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

beth-ellyn-rosenthal-eXp-Realty-las-vegas-henderson-RIPPA-Method

I love four-day week-ends because they make Friday come faster! (Can’t wait for July 4th!) Want to see the Jonas Brothers, Weird All Yankovic or Boy George & Culture Club (he does eye make-up far better than me!)? Well then reach into your hip national bank.

Lookin’ for some FREE fun things to do in Las Vegas this week-end? You’ve come to the right place. It’s my job, dear readers, to suss out the kewl things to do that cost nothing.

Buckle up ’cause here we go.

Tour a Fire Station (North Las Vegas)

Station 19 here in Las Vegas! Photo: Me!

Station 19 is one of my favorite network TV shows. So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered my newest rental (anyone looking for a place to live?) was spittin’ distance away from Clark County’s Station 19.

These folks aren’t inviting you in. But the Fire Chief of North Las Vegas, Joseph Calhoun, is.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the North Las Vegas Fire Department is hosting an Open House and FREE pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 am at Station 56, which is at 3475 Elkhorn Road.

You will get to tour the facility and get an up-close look at the firefighter’s equipment. The firefights will also do a live fire demonstration.

The firemen will also be cooking breakfast. As we know from TV, you’d better be able to cook if you want to be a firefighter!

These events are really fun because so few people show up. I went to one at the Aspen Police Department several years ago. I was the only person who bothered to stop by. The cops were so excited they not only feed me breakfast but took me backstage and gave me a tour. I got to go into everything except the evidence fault. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Speaking of FREE Food (South)

Fresh baked malassadas Photo: Island Sushi and Grill

Today is National Donut Day. To celebrate, Island Sushi and Grill is hosting its Malassada Challenge.

A malassada is a Hawaiian donut that can be filled with tropical fruit goodness like guavas and bananas. The restaurant bakes them fresh daily.

Starting at 1 you can take part in the challenge, which does cost $10 to enter. You have two minutes to eat as many malassadas as possible.

The winner will receive one year of FREE malassadas. Everyone gets a FREE t-shirt.

Hear the Henderson Symphony (Henderson)

The Planets is on the program! Art: Henderson Symphony Orchestra

Who says there is no culture in the land of casinos?

Las Vegas has its Philharmonic that performs at the Smith Center. Tickets are pricey.

Henderson has a symphony orchestra too and it performs at the Dollar Loan Center, home of the Vegas Silver Knights hockey team. All that means is the venue will be cool inside.

Gustav Holst’s The Planets is on the bill. I love Beethoven, Bach and Mozart. But the Planets ranks No. 4. It is fun!

The program is FREE. Just show up when the music starts at 8.

Dive into a Pool Party (North Las Vegas)

It’s 101 outside and it’s election time. Just add water!

Councilman Scott Black is hosting a FREE pool party tomorrow (Saturday) at the Silver Mesa Pool. 3-7 pm. The other sponsors are the Southern Nevada Health District (so you know that pool’s in top shape) and the City.

Food! Games! Live DJ! Giveaways! Just like on a cruise.

But the point is you can go swimming. This pool just got a $500,000 make over, so it must be kewl.

I don’t have a pool in my backyard so I’m in!

Have a great week-end, Las Vegas.
