The holidays are coming! The holidays are coming! With the first major holiday being Halloween. After Super Bowl and New Year’s Eve, Halloween is the No. 3 holiday with the largest tourist numbers, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. We know how do do Halloween, people. And we know how do it FREE.
This weekend you see the B-52s (Rock Lobster lives!), Carly Rae Jepsen (I will call you, no maybe about it) and Hamilton (I would never give up my shot). And it’s NASCAR week-end at the Las Vegas Speedway. But all require spendy tickets.
It’s my job to find FREE fun for you, my readers.
Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Watch a Halloween Parade (Summerlin)

Downtown Summerlin believes shopping centers are a great location for the community to have fun. Parades are a big part of the picture here.
Who doesn’t love a parade?
Enjoy the Parade of Mischief. There will be three scary floats. Zombies! Ghosts! Witches! Wizards! And everyone dances. Eighty local kids will be dressed to scare. FREE!
The parade kicks off every Friday and Saturday at 6:45 pm through October 29. The parade winds around Park Centre Drive.
There’s plenty of FREE parking.
Watch a Canine Costume Contest (West)

Dogtoberfest is back! Tomorrow Saturday from 3 to 8.
Every year Big Dog Brewing Company hosts a fundraiser for The Animal Foundation, Las Vegas’s animal shelter. The event combines the beer drinking spirit of German Oktoberfest with the feel good friendliness of a Wisconsin brat cookout. I grew up in Chicago. We summered in Wisconsin. I still dream of those brats on the barbee.
There will be more than 50 different craft beers to sip. Pair them with sizzling brats. Consuming these are NOT free. It’s like a carnival. You buy $3 tickets and surrender the appropriate number with each pour.
You do have to be 21 to drink beer in public.
What is FREE is the event. Arrow provides live music from 3 to 5. Kelly & the Strays (so appropriate for a doggie event) takes over at 5 and goes to 8.
But you really want to go for the Dog Costume Contest. What dog doesn’t look adorable in a Halloween costume? And yes there’s a human Costume Contest too. Last year’s winners came dressed as brats.
And there’s FREE parking for 250 cars.
Enjoy a Bavarian Bash (Henderson)

After studying the German language at Yale for four years, I decided to spend the summer after graduation at a Goethe Institut, a language school for foreigners, so I could really converse with the locals. I lived in a tiny town called Passau. No one there spoke English so I had to learn conversational German real fast.
Of course I came home with a pair of ledershosen. Of course right now I can’t even get one leg in them.
But if your lederhosen fit, head to Water Street in downtown Henderson for its annual Bavarian Bash 2022. The FREE festival will give you a taste of Deutschland right here in Clark County.
The best part will the be the German music. The Europa Band, Salzburger Echo and Oompoporama will treat you to live German music. You know, lots of accordion and tuba.
If you want to sample German food, the Good-Bad-Delicious food truck will be serving the fare. Bratwurst, schnitzel, and even pizza. (It has sauerkraut. I am not having it.) This is NOT free.
There will also be German beer. Also not FREE.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
