One year from today the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix arrives with the races closing down the Las Vegas Strip. This week Wynn Las Vegas announced a $1 million F1 package. It’s for six people and includes a four-night stay at the Encore with 24-hour butler service and VIP access to the race and drivers’ pits, among other things. Also, to make the oligarchs feel good, $100,00 from each sales goes to local charities.
Why am I telling you this? Because many of the kewl things in Las Vegas are tres cher.
So that’s why you have come to the right place, loyal readers. This blog is devoted to finding FREE fun in Las Vegas. And there’s lots!
Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Enjoy the Christmas Parade at Downtown Summerlin (Summerlin)

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas (I think I’ve heard that somewhere before) even though Thanksgiving isn’t until next week. Here in Las Vegas where it doesn’t snow Christmas starts the day after Halloween. But I digress.
Downtown Summerlin loves to stage parades. Give ’em a reason and there’s a float at the ready. My favorites are the Fourth of July, Chinese New Year and Christmas parades.
And the Christmas parade starts tonight Friday and runs through December 17. Line up on Park Center Drive at 5:30.
If you love Christmas movies, this is the parade for you because they are the inspiration for all the floats. There are always dancers and characters a la Disneyland. Santa has his own float.
The parade happens in snow. (What’s that?) I drove home from my place in Aspen in an actual snow storm on Halloween, so I am really glad the snow does not extend to the parking lot.
This is a FREE fun way to start any evening.
Rock Out to the Stone Temple Pilots (Fremont Street Experience)

Last night Viva Vision, the overhead light and sound sensory thing at the Fremont Street Experience, premiered a new show featuring the Stone Temple Pilots or STP to those in the know. The band even answered questions from the crowd.
Tomorrow night Saturday you can see the show and hear the band perform FREE. The concert starts at 8 on the Third Street Stage. The Dirty Hooks open the show.
This is the final show of the Downtown Rocks series. We have been enjoying FREE music since April 23. I’ve enjoyed Starship, Vixen, Rick Springfield and Parmalee. You just have to wait until your favorite group becomes a legend and then see them FREE at the Fremont Street Experience.
Downtown Rocks is one of the reasons I love livin’ here.
Mange on a FREE Slice (Henderson)

What’s more delicious than FREE food? Better yet, FREE pizza?
If you are hungry for pizza at 4 pm today and are near Stephanie and Sunset, stop by the grand opening of Jets Pizza.
For one hour the new store is giving away one free slice.
This is Detroit pizza. That means it’s square. (Did you know that’s the original shape of Roman pizza?) The point is every slice is supposed to have crispy corners.
I love the Jets back story. In1978 the founder Eugene Jets was about to buy a new home. But on the way to the closing, he changed his mind. (If I were his Realtor, I would have demanded FREE pizza for life after he backed out at the last minute!)
Instead, he signed a lease on a space that would become the first Jet’s location in Michigan. The Henderson location is the first one in Las Vegas.
Have a great weekend and a healthy, happy Thanksgiving, Las Vegas. I give thanks for you!
