This week Caesars Entertainment rolled out its 2023 Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix package. The $5 million offering includes a five-night stay at the Nobu Sky Villa. The terrace has room for up to 75 people. This is important because it boasts clear sight lines to the race cars down below. Don’t worry. The prices does includes butler service.
Las Vegas, however, is not just for the .001 percent. There is plenty of affordable entertainment. Since I assume you are like me and are just receiving your Christmas credit card bills, FREE entertainment is much appreciated.
It’s my job to suss out that FREE stuff. Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Honor MLK on His Birthday (Downtown)

You have the day off Monday because it’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday celebration. Las Vegas has events all weekend. But the city saved the best for last: The annual parade. This is the city’s 41st.
The theme this year is “Living the Deam-It Starts with Me. (Shifting Priorities to Create the Beloved Community.“ There will be floats, marching bands and lots of loud motorcycles… plus politicians, probably also loud.
The parade route winds through downtown Las Vegas. The start is 4th Street and Gass.
FREE.
Enjoy a Country Music Concert (Downtown)

If you are missing the cowboys since the rodeo left town, sashay down to the Fremont Street Experience for the next installment of “Country’s Next Big Thing.” Tonight Friday Tigirlily Gold perform FREE on the 1st Street Stage.
Tigorlily Gold is a duo made up of two sisters-Kendra and Krista Slabaugh-who are two and a half years apart like me and my sister. (Just in case you wanted to know.) They christened their musical group after the tiger lily flower flowers growing in their North Dakota garden. I guess that’s how they spell the flower there. Just kidding. I’m from Texas and I know this works.
Now the sisters live in Nashville. Their tune “Somebody Does” hit #1 on the iTunes all-genre chart.
And yes, this concert is FREE thanks to sponsor 95.5 The Bull. Yee haw.
Get Your Heart Pounding at a BMX Race (South)

Las Vegas is all pumped up about Formula One. How about racing on just two wheels?
This weekend USA BMX holds it Silver Dollar Nationals at South Point Arena & Equestrian Center.
This event is the 2023 season opener. Up to seven riders compete in a race full of obstacles. There are big jumps! Deep turns! Sharp downhills! These bikers race at automobile speeds.
There are races all weekend from boys and girls 12 and under to the pros. Attendance is FREE.
Rock Out to Live Music (Off Strip)

Tomorrow night Saturday Live Music Society performs at Remix Lounge at The Strat. The band is a collection of Las Vegas musicians who gig together and can play anything.
The group has revolving lead singers so the set never gets boring.
The show starts at 9 and ends at 1 am. DJ Stephi K takes over at 1 am and goes to 5 am. So you can make a night and morning of it!
And yes all this fun is FREE.
The Stratosphere, the original name, opened in 1996, the year I passed the real estate broker’s exam in Nevada. I stayed here until I bought my first house in Las Vegas. The area at the time was called Naked City and it wasn’t the safest part of town. The worst that happened to me was someone broke into my car in the parking garage.
Then Golden Entertainment, which owns PT’s restaurants and Arizona Charlies here in Las Vegas, bought the casino and renamed it The Strat after the city cleaned up the area and christened it the gateway to downtown.
By the way, Shaquille O’Neal opens his newest Big Chicken restaurant today spittin’ distance from me at Tee Pee and Trop. Nothing free about this but I already know my car will go there on auto pilot for the chicken sandwiches. Just thought you’d want to know.
It’s Friday the 13th so have a lucky weekend, Las Vegas.
