Welcome to what I call an “eye of the storm” weekend in Las Vegas.
Eye of the storm weekends are calming, laid back days sandwiched between the frenetic weekends of New Years Eve, the second busiest weekend in Las Vegas, and Super Bowl, THE busiest weekend in Las Vegas.
In a mere 12 months the next Super Bowl will be here in Las Vegas. OMG. But I digress.
I can’t imagine what the prices will be February ’24. The prices in ’23 for first-class entertainment in Las Vegas are already sky high.
But it’s my job, dear readers, to find FREE fun for you in Las Vegas. And there is plenty. Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Who’s Going to the Super Bowl? (South)

As you know, the South Point ballroom is my favorite place to watch all events rodeo.
But the casino knows how to host football watching parties too. And not only are they FREE. You can go home richer. There’s always a giveaway. At this party the casino is giving away $250 at the end of the first, second and third quarters and at the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter for both games.
Obviously the event is Sunday. You can watch both the NFC and the AFC championships here.
The event is in The Showroom, a much smaller, more intimate space. There are only 400 seats. Which means getting rowdy magnifies the fun for all to see.
Prices are a lot cheaper here for food and drink. (Compare below.) Bud drafts are just $2 or spend $15 on bottomless beer. (Bud Light is a sponsor.) Hot dogs cost $1.50. One dollar will set you back for popcorn.
Doors open at 11.
I’ll actually be there the night before to hear local favorite Frankie Moreno. Those tickets are $35.
Chinese New Year Part 2 (West)

Las Vegas’s Chinatown is in the city’s southwest quadrant. So are many of the Asian communities. That’s probably why Clark County selected Desert Breeze Community Center as the place for it’s annual Spring Festival celebrating the Year of the Rabbit.
That’s where I vote. But I digress.
A traditional lion dance opens the event. There will be live performances, games and workshops. Hungry? Food trucks will be in the parking lot.
This Sunday from 11 to 2. FREE.
My tax dollars at work. You’re welcome.
If you want your lion dance serenaded by slot machines, head to the Rampart Casino. The lion dance happens tonight Friday at 9 on the casino floor. If you are hungry, you can stop by the casino’s Jade Asian Kitchen & Noodles for a 3-pound while lobster for $140 (before tip.) The Beijing duck is cheaper: $100.
Now you see why you need me.
Hear My Friend Perform at the Tuscany (Off the Strip)

I am studying Japanese on TikTok. Who is my teacher? Tomoko Fukada. A native speaker, she is hilarious in English.
Guess what? She can sing too. She’s one of the featured singers at the Rita Lim show at the Tuscany Las Vegas this Sunday.
I’ve told you about the Piazza Lounge before. Kenny Davidsen spearheads the shows on Friday nights. Rita does Sundays. Each host invites locals to perform.
You can Las Vegas Strip-worthy entertainment for FREE. Plus there’s a beautiful wood dance floor that people actually use!
The show has three sets. It starts at 7. Tomoko is in the second set that starts at 8.
The place gets crowded so I’d be there at 6:30 if you want a table.
I’m going to be there to support my friend. Come say hi!
Oh, and parking is FREE too.
Have a great weekend, Las Vegas.
