Elvis. Everyone in Las Vegas has an Elvis story. Here’s mine.
In 1969 my father wanted to play the Desert Inn golf course, so he packed the family in the car driving from Chicago to Las Vegas. But we visited family in LA first. He treated my sister and me to a Led Zepplin show. OMG.
My mother was a huge Elvis fan. My father was ecstatic that he purchased four tickets to see Elvis. I was 18 and NOT into Elvis. Led Zepplin was more me. In classic obnoxious teen-age style, I exclaimed I was not going to go. My father shook the ticket at me and said, “I paid $25 for these tickets! (It included a lobster dinner too!) You are going, young lady!
Father knows best! Elvis was well, indescribable. It was the most amazing concert ever. And I have seen Lady Gaga, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder. How do you explain the man’s magnetic charisma that was the bass line for that amazing voice? And those hips don’t lie!
Fast forward to today. Shop at the local grocery story here in Las Vegas and there will be an Elvis impersonator (or two) in line in front of you. There’s always one greeting someone at the airport.
But my favorite Elvis impersonator is Big Elvis aka Pete Vallee. (He’s know as Big Elvis because well, he tips the Toledos.) He performs not only ALL of Elvis’s biggest hits but also classics from the last six decades.
Big Elvis is a master at interacting with the crowd. He takes song requests. He’ll invite you on stage to sing harmony.
Vallee has been perfecting this show since he arrived in Las Vegas in 1998. Today he performs at The Piano Bar at Harrah’s Las Vegas. FREE! No cover!
It’s an afternoon show. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2, 3:30 and 5 pm.
The Piano Bar has karaoke from 6 to 9 and Dueling Pianos from 9 to zero dark thirty in case you want to stay.
