Las Vegas is one of the entertainment capitals of the world. But alas alack alay, many of the options are super spendy. Your humble scribe has found some fun things to do in Las Vegas this week-end for FREE!
FREE music is in the air this week. All kinds. Enjoy! And Happy Chinese New Year!
Jazz in the Park

Downtown Container Park has live entertainment every week-end FREE. But the last Sunday of every month is special. It’s Jazz Sessions Sundays.
This Sunday High Altitude entertains. The band hails from Sante Fe, New Mexico. Its repertoire includes original music as well as classic covers.
During the winter months the sessions are from 3 to 6 pm before it gets dark. It’s a great way to wind down the week-end before the craziness of Super Bowl arrives just seven days later!
Beethoven Up Close

I confess. Ludwig van is my favorite classical composer. Did you know this year is the 250th anniversary of his birth? (Hard to imagine!)
I love the lush, grand symphonies. But the intimate chamber music is kewl too.
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is presenting “Inside Beethoven’s Mind” tomorrow at the Windmill Library. The performance is FREE. The show, which starts at 2, lasts 90 minutes.
The event will feature two of his early chamber works. They include the Piano Sonata No. 9 in E Major, which the chamber group will play twice. First, the original version for solo piano. and then Beethoven’s own arrangement for a string quarter. Unusual, huh.
The second piece is the Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Opus 15.
The musicians includes faculty members of the Dr. Shirley Linzy Young Artists Orchestra of Las Vegas. The featured pianist, Lucas Porter, flies in from Canada for his Las Vegas debut.
Dance Salsa at Chica

Chica, the Mexican restaurant at the Venetian, is launching Chica Nights starting tonight. The party starts at 9 and lasts until close. Every Friday and Saturday night, so make it a habit!
A live DJ will play the hot salsa hits, tempting you to merengue the night away. If you are female, you can drink FREE champange until midnight.
I did says there is no cover right?
The kitchen will stay open. So if you get the munchies, you can order ceviche, pork belly tacos, and my fav, Peruvian-style skirt steak. These delights, my friend, are not FREE.
If you want to pay….

f you want to pay to see a show, head to the Theatre at the Venetian to hear Foreigner. When you leave, you will know for sure what love is! The cheap seats are $49.95.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
