FREE Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, Las Vegas was one of the entertainment capitals of the world. Today Wayne Newton and Billy Gibbons (lead singer of ZZ Top) are bicyling down the Las Vegas Strip instead of performing on it.

Today I will share with you the kewlest livestreams this week-end.

Earl Turner, Las Vegas legend

Earl Turner

I have been a fan of Earl Turner’s since 1992. He was traveling the country playing local show rooms. I was living in Dallas. He was always the New Year’s Eve entertainer at one of the big North Dallas hotels.

I became a local fan when Turner played the Rio Bamba Cabaret at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino. I remember the packed crowds. (His first Las Vegas gig was opening the Luxor in 1989.) He had the room rockin’. He owned the place.

His voice is creamy, velvety. He can sing show tunes and hip hop with equal verve. His dance moves rival Michael Jackson’s. He has a great sense of humor. He is a consummate entertainer.

When you see his show in person, he likes to get in the audience and sing to YOU. Up close and personal. (Ah, the old days….)

P.S. You might know Aaron Turner, his son. He was the runner-up on 2013’s “So You Think You Can Dance” contest.

Broadway in the ‘Hood

Curtain call at the Smith Center. I took this photo!

I am also a big fan of Broadway in the ‘Hood. (You know me and musical theater.) It’s a charity that invites inner city kids and homeless people to be thespians. The productions they put on are professional and fun. They perform at the Smith Center, no less.

Tomorrow night’s concert is a fund-raiser for the charity.

The show streams on charity’s Facebook page. It’s from 5-8 pm tomorrow night.

Have a memorable Memorial Day week-end, Las Vegas.
