FREE Fun in Las Vegas: 4-Letter Friday

Beth Ellyn Rosenthal eXp Realty Las Vegas Henderson RIPPA Method

The weather is warming. Las Vegas’s corona virus benchmarks are falling. The kids are back in school (kind of.) And Ms Beth Ellyn got her first Moderna vaccine shot. Before long this column will have nothing but in-real-life-events to share. Can’t wait!

But until then…

Explore an authentic warship

You can access more than 20,000 items in the museum’s collection Photo: Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Complex

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Complex in New York City is closed. The museum features the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise and a guided missile submarine.

I grew up in Chicago and loved to go down into the Museum of Science and Industry‘s coal mine since my mother grew up in a coal mining town in Pennsylvania and I actually met real coal miners as a kid.

So I can’t wait to go to NYC to actually board a real aircraft carrier and touch the space shuttle that launched America’s space shuttle program. (And see Moulin Rouge!)

Fortunately for us, the museum has discovered Facebook. It has daily live streams and a virtual astronomy live program.

Today’s live stream is a virtual tour of the aircraft carrier and a discussion of the history of the ship and crew. It sailed the seas from 1943 (World War II) to 1974 (Viet Nam.)

My father was a sniper in World War II and many of my high school friends went to Nam. But I digress.

Next Tuesday’s live stream is Intrepid Women! (The exclamation point is theirs.)

Perseverance lands on Mars!

Speaking of space, did you watch the landing on Mars? OMG.

NASA posted its footage on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4czjS9h4Fpg

Star Wars in real life.

The video is FREE but really our tax dollars paid for this amazing feat. Money well spent in my book.

Bake marshmallow brownies with an expert

Marshmallow brownies

During the pandemic I started baking again. And I rekindled my love of chocolate, even though I am not supposed to eat it if I want to continue to be able to talk.

One of my favorite baking mentors is Allysa Torey, who owns the Magnolia Bakery in New York City. On Saturday she is baking these scrumptious treats as a guest on show by A Mighty Blaze, an organization that started during the pandemic to connect cookbook authors with cookbook users.

Torey will be talking about her cookbook “At Home With Magnolia,” and baking her marshmallow-Oreo brownies.

The class is at 11 am and is FREE.

Skateboard in Desert Breeze Park

There are currently 20 skate parks in Las Vegas. The closest one to me is at Desert Breeze Park.

I, of course, need to keep two feet on the ground. But the kids are on all kinds of things on wheels. It looks like great fun. And it is great fun to watch.

You will need some exercise after you eat all those brownies.

Have a great, safe, healthy week-end Las Vegas!
