Happy Birthday Nashville Unplugged!
Tonight’s show marks the 10th anniversary of one of my favorite FREE shows in Las Vegas. I was there when the show first started at the Ovation Showroom at Green Valley Ranch Station Casino back in 2009. Ovation is now a bingo room but Nashville Unplugged is still going strong!
So what it is? Host Aaron Benward, who has been headlining the show since Day 1, invites two to three song writers from Nashville. They discuss the back story of some of your favorite country songs. You hear first hand how the song writers came up with the songs and then actually wrote them. Some of the stories are so wild you couldn’t make this stuff up!
The songwriters and Benward then sing the song. Benward has his acoustic guitar with them and the songwriters bring theirs or play a keyboard provided by the Rhythm & Riffs, where the show is now. They don’t have the voices of the Nashville stars they write for, but the stories truly make up for it.
Tonight’s co-host is Danny Myrick. He can sing: he was the lead singer in the country band Western Flyer. He’s done background vocals for Blake Shelton, Montgomery Gentry and Keith Anderson. On, and he wrote “She’s Country,” by Jason Aldean, which was 2009’s most played country song, according to Billboard.
You have to be really, really good to survive a decade in the Las Vegas music scene, because there’s just soo much wonderful music talent here. Congrats Nashville Unplugged!
I did say the show is FREE. Starts at 8.Rhythm & Riffs is in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
