Las Vegas boasts it is “THE Entertainment Capital of the World.” That might be a slight exaggeration. Well, we do have the best DJs and stars performing here. But entertainment in Las Vegas can be spendy.
It is my job, dear readers, to find FREE fun for you this week-end.
Mystic Falls at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall
As a long-time Las Vegas local, I rarely go to the Strip unless I have out-of-town guests, want to see a show or try out a fancy restaurant.
Instead, we locals head to our favorite local Strip.
One of those is the Boulder Highway Strip. One of my long-time favorites is Sam’s Town. Twenty years ago it had the best country & western honky tonk in the city with FREE dance lessons, now long-gone. I met the most interesting people from all over the world and actually learned how to two-step. But I digress.
But Mystic Falls Park is still there. Real trees soar to the sky in the 10-story high park. Birds actually live in the trees. And there’s a man-made waterfall.
The hotel created a laser show like the ones in Europe. The laser shows happen at 6, 8 and 10 pm every day. There is an additional 4 pm show on the weekends.
Restaurants surround the park, so you can have a drink or dine and enjoy the outdoors indoors.
FREE Pool Party in North Las Vegas
If you don’t have your own backyard pool, come to the Petitti Pool on Saturday. Councilman Isaac Barron (Is it election time already?) is hosting a FREE pool party. And you don’t have to be his constituent to show up!
There will be FREE food, a live DJ plus games.
Party is from noon to 3.
Of course there will be FREE Covid-19 testing too. If FREE nude photos from a local porn star https://youtu.be/9m8V3KbSo6U , a $100 gift certificate or a FREE lap dance wouldn’t induce https://youtu.be/OyB7JACCiTc you to get a jab, swimming certainly will do the trick.
The party has some worthy sponsors: Southern Nevada Health District Community Health Center, Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition and Mi Familia Vota Education Fund.
Fun Things To Do Under $20
If you haven’t been to Citrus, you must. It’s the rooftop pool deck of the Downtown Grand.
The roof deck provides some of the best views of downtown and the Strip.
During the day, it’s a happenin’ pool scene. On the weekends, live music turns the rooftop into a night club under the stars.
You can wear your fancy clothes, shorts or a bikini. Actually, swimwear is encouraged.
The promoter Reggae on the Roof is hosting SOUNDCLASH! tomorrow night. There will be two DJs: DJ Thomas from LA and our own DJ Finesse from HOT 97.5.
If this one is anything like the ones I’ve been to, it will be hot indeed.
If you buy your tickets today, they cost $17. If you wait until tomorrow, they are $27.
You must be 21 to attend. They won’t be checking your vax certificate but they will be checking your ID!
Phantasmagoria: A Night of Gothic, Vampiric Witchery
I went grocery shopping today and Smith’s had its Halloween stuff out already.
Netherwordly Productions is thinking the same way. Its show, Pahtasmagoria: A Night of Gothic, Vampiric Witchery, performs this week-end.
It’s a carnival of “dark music and witchy belly dance.” It’s a Gothic metal, doom live music and performance fair.
- The Sixth Chamber
- Blackr Sabbath
- Midnight Sinfini
- Cleopatra of Egypt
Here is the dress code:
(Can I borrow something to wear???)
The event will be at Artifice on 1st Street in the Arts District.
Tickets are $15. Once again, 21 and over can attend.
Have a great weekend, Las Vegas!
