Las Vegas is one of the world’s best places to hear all kinds of music. Lady Gaga. Aerosmith. Jennifer Lopez. Celine Deion. Reba, Brooks & Dunn, even Herman’s Hermits. They all have residencies here.
Many of these music luminaries on the Las Vegas Strip also come with stratospheric ticket prices. Lady Gaga’s tickets can cost more than $1,000 each!
But there are plenty of music venues in local Las Vegas that are FREE. One of my favorites is the Double Down Saloon because all its concerts are FREE!
Decaying Tigers with their favorite instrument: A Game Boy
Tonight the Decaying Tigers perform at the Double Down. It’s the Arcade Anarchy Release Show.
The Decaying Tigers are a chiptune band. Chiptune bands create synthesized electronic music using early gaming systems and microcomputers, starting with pagers.
The trio that make up Decaying Tigers create their unique sound using Nintendo Game Boys while playing live instruments with chiptune backtracks. Well, it’s hard to describe. You just gotta go and hear it! All their music is original.

Cheyne Shirley plays the bass/Game Boy, Jack Rubinstein plays the keytar/Game Boy and Austin Grimes pounds electronic drums.
The FREE show starts at 10. And guess what? Parking is FREE too on Friday and Saturday nights. (I love this place. FREE parking!!!!) Park in the lot south of the Double Down. You can get there from both Paradise AND Swenson.
VegeNation is a kewl vegan restaurant in Henderson
You may need some au courant couture to hang out in kewl places like the Double Down. So go through your closet and find the 10 nicest things from the 1990s that you can’t fit into any more. Take them to VegeNation for a clothing swap. You surrender your 10 items and then you get to take 10 new ones home.
VegeNation, a community-based restaurant serving “street food,” is on Eastern Avenue in Henderson. The entire menu is plant based and that includes its meats, cheeses and ice cream! Even the corporate name is delicious: Viva Las Vegan LLC. (I love clever.)
The clothing exchange is FREE. Tomorrow from 12-3.
