Want to see a racy play for FREE in Las Vegas? After all, that’s what tourists expect, right? Racy!
Then head to the Jewel Box Theater at the Clark County Library on East Flamingo for a staged reading of “Closer.” It’s the second play by the British playwright Patrick Marber. It’s about a stripper, adult chat rooms, sex and complicated adult relationships. You won’t really know who’s in love with who until the last minute, unless you read the synopsis on Wikipedia first, which I always do because I can’t wait to find out!

The central theme of the play is truth. What a novel concept! The language is sexually explicit. You’ve been warned.
This play is no slouch. It debuted at the Royal National Theater in London in 1997 and made it to Broadway in 1999.
If you’ve never seen a performance at the Jewel Box, it’s a tiny, intimate theater with great sight lines and ah-maz-ing sound. It’s in the middle of the cavernous library. There’s something kewl about seeing a play surrounded by billions of books. But I digress.
The performance starts at 7:30 Friday night but I’d get there early. This FREE play appeals to the Vegas Zeitgeist.
If jazz is more your style, you are in luck! The last Sunday of every month Downtown Container Park has Jazz Session Sundays. Of course, this Sunday qualifies. This is a good thing since the FREE jazz concerts at the Clark County Jazz in the Park series ended last Saturday.
As you know, jazz is now the coolest thing to listen to in Las Vegas, thanks to Lady Gaga.

The FREE show starts at 5 and goes to 8. The outside temperature should be tolerably cool by then.
Of course, if you hear the siren call of one of the 39 restaurants, bars and stores in the Downtown Container Park, you will have to spend money.
