It’s been 70 years since visionary mobster Bugsy Siegel opened the Fremont in downtown Las Vegas. Believe it or not, some of us old-timers really miss the days when the mob ran Las Vegas casinos. Things were somehow clearer and actually more human than today when big corporations coldly run the show. Which is why January is Mob Month in Las Vegas.
Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel
The theory is corporate America cleaned up the illegal mob activity even though, IMHO, they sometimes act like the mob. But is the mob really gone?
Maybe not! Law enforcement officials, politicians, historians and journalists will debate that question next Tuesday night the Clark County Library on Flamingo. The title of the debate is: “Is the Mob Still in Vegas?” And you don’t have to skim money off your savings to attend the panel discussion because it’s free!
So what do you think? Is the mob still running Las Vegas?
