Need a date? Take your dog to Yappy Hour

I’ve spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours training Bensley, my Labradoodle, to become a federally-licensed service dog. Translation: I can take him anywhere, including casinos and airplanes. But you can save yourself the time and expense. Want to take your pooch to a Las Vegas resort?  Dust off your best dog collar and take your best friend to Yappy Hour from 6-9 at Rumor Boutique Hotel near the Strip.

The hotel, on Harmon across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel, hosts Yappy Hour the third Thursday of every month. This month the event attracted 200 people and 175 canines.

The rumor is true: Yappy Hour dogs can be off leash. Dogs can roam both the hotel courtyard and the extensive grounds. There are fresh water bowls everywhere and plastic wading pools in the summer so the canines can cool off. Local pet shops participate, liberally dispensing free pet treats. A DJ provides music to add to the festivities. Yes, he plays, “Who Let the Dogs Out.”

Each Yappy Hour has a theme. During the beach party theme, there was a swimsuit contest (for the dogs, not the humans.) Halloween features a costume party, natch, and December is the Santa Paws party.

Dogs get in gratis but it’s $10 per human. That, thankfully, includes a drink ticket because human libations are also not free. And there are specially priced yappitizers for the two-legged participants. With so many dog lovers, it’s a great time to cat around!

Some of the proceeds go to the Animal Foundation. We love that!

The next Yappy Hours are August 15 and September 19. No Yappy Hour on Turkey Day, though.

The Rumor Boutique Hotel is located at 455 East Harmon.

P.S. Obviously, Rumor Boutique Hotel is a pet-friendly place. So if you’d had too much to drink, you can book a room and snuggle up with your dog, just like at home!

((hugs))
