Usually I cringe when I see where my Las Vegas/Clark County taxes are going. But I grin from ear-to-ear when I see some of my tax dollars fund Clark County’s FREE Jazz in the Park Series.
This is year 26 for the tuneful Clark County Parks and Recreation festival. Residents sit on the lawn and bring elaborate, even elegant al fresco meals as they listen to cool jazz under the stars and in the shadow of moonlit mountains. (Mama Rosato is cooking for tomorrow’s feast, so join us!) Some people even bring tablecloths to put on real tables.
You can purchase food there if you don’t want to schlepp all that gear from the parking lot. Cafe Michelle is on site to serve:
- Smoked pork ribs drizzled with BBQ sauce, rice and spring mix salad
- Chicken kabobs over a bed of rice pilaf and spring mix salad
- Louisiana all-beef hot links marinated in sweet and bold Texas-style BBQ sauces over a rice pilaf
- Italian mild pork sausage sandwich with a side of crispy fries
- Breaded chicken fingers with crispy French fries and side sauces
- Crispy chicken salad
And their wine experts are always on hand to pair your food or theirs with just with right wine.
But the music is the real deal. Tomorrow night’s featured guest is one of my all-time favorite smooth jazz ensembles, Sypro Gyra. Yeah! This group has released over 30 albums in the 41 years they’ve been together. I rocked my baby to sleep to their music and he’s now 36.

Spyro Gyra: Check out the grey hair!
The concert happens at the Clark County Amphitheatre which sits right outside the government building. It’s a grassy bowl, which somehow naturally amplifies the sound. It sure beats the Smith Center for acoustics and ambiance.

Check out the Strip as you listen to music under the stars
The doors open at 5. Show starts at 7. There’s plenty of parking which is FREE too.
See you there.
