Happy Birthday, America. Fourth of July is here and it’s a four-day week-end. Las Vegas can be pricey: Wynn Las Vegas’s “Red, White & Barbecue” on the lawn costs $99 per. But my job, dear readers is to find fun things to do for FREE. Here is my take.
Fireworks!

There are 10 different FREE fireworks displays this year. You can almost just step into the street after dark and watch.
I am a self-proclaimed fireworks aficionado. ( See below.) So here are my curated favorites:
July 2: The Plaza. The downtown hotel is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. The property will showcase three nights of fireworks starting tonight at 10 p.m.
July 4:
- Henderson: The City of Henderson launches it fireworks show, entitled Star-Spangled Sky 2021 at 9 pm. Watch from Green Valley Ranch, Lake Las Vegas, the M Resort and Galleria at Sunset. The accompanying music will play on the valley’s four iHeart Radio stations.
- The Strip. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is funding this show. It starts at 11 pm. The pyrotechnicians are throwing the fireworks from the rooftops of Aria, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood Resort, Resorts World, The Strat, Treasure Island and the Venetian.
- Southwest. Stations Casinos will launch its show at 9 pm from Red Rock Resort. The company is livestreaming the event on all its social media channels. Check it out at http://stationcasinosblog.com
Here is my Fourth of July fireworks story.
In the late 1950s my father was a corporate litigator. But he defended the very smallest businessmen. One of his clients was a fireworks manufacturer. Back then civilians could not have fireworks.
He sued the state of Illinois (I grew up in Chicago) on behalf of the client. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court. And he won!!!!!
The local fireworks manufacturer was so happy, for the next 10 years, the CEO came to our backyard and gave us our own private fireworks display. Our neighbors loved us!
That’s how I grew up loving pyrotechnics.
See Miley Cyrus FREE (kind of)

Miley Cyrus, whose real name is Destiny Hope, opens the Ayu Dayclub at the new Resorts World Las Vegas. Her performance is Sunday night at 9.
If you want to see her show FREE, show up at Resorts World. The casino is streaming her show live on its 100,000 square foot LED screen (no, that is not a typo) on the west tower.
To kill time before the show, head out to Genting Boulevard. The resort is closing the street to create a July 4 block party. Kind of like Fremont Street without all the naked buskers. This too is FREE.
Summerlin’s July 4th Parade…on July 3

Tomorrow will mark year 27 for Summerlin’s Birthday Party Parade.
The 30-minute parade kicks off at 9. Performances as well as floats. FREE!
Here is the route:

Listen to Music at Club Madrid

If you are just not into crowds and would prefer to listen to some breezy live music, you are in luck!
The Windjammers are a Las Vegas band that specialize in Yacht Rock. The genre got its title because rich people would drink champagne and do drugs on their yachts listening to this music. Favored Yacht Rock artists are Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan and Toto.
Tomorrow night the Windjammers sing their hearts out at Club Madrid, the intimate performance club at Sunset Station. I love Club Madrid because it’s so small you can almost touch the stage from any seat. You feel like the performers are there just for you.
The FREE show starts at 8.
Las Vegas is a desert. Those guys must be behind a green screen. But I digress.
Have a happy and safe Fourth, Las Vegas.
