This is the last week-end in Las Vegas before school starts. Let’s have a big one before the kids get back to work. We adults of course were slammed this week and need a big one too.
Las Vegas is one of the premier entertainment venues on the planet. Adele just announced this week she WILL do her shows in Las Vegas. You can get a single seat for $990 but the good ones in the orchestra cost $18,364. Not a typo. In my world that is a down payment on a house.
But fear not, dear readers. I have sussed out kewl things for you to do FREE.
Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Unplug and Play at North Las Vegas City Hall (North Las Vegas)

North Las Vegas is slowly shedding its un-kewl-ness. I’ve owned a home there since 2002 and I can tell you the community is hoppin’. My tax dollars are funding some super kewl events.
Today is the last week day before school starts. So the city is hosting a FREE special event for kids from 5-17 called “Unplug and Play.” There will be outdoor fun! FREE toys! And a demonstration by the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
To elaborate on the free toys, they include hoverboards, soccer balls, Legos and board games. Another reason to wish I were still 17.
As an adult, I love to watch the demonstrations by the Fire Department. They do amazing things and have some super kewl toys too.
9 am to 11:30 at Liberty Park at North Las Vegas City Hall. It’s on Las Vegas Boulevard.
Cox Is Hosting a Back to School Fair (West)

Tomorrow head to the Meadows Mall for the fair. Cox Communications and Clark County Credit Union are the generous sponsors. See, the cable company does good things in addition to making you volcanically mad!
Tomorrow is the only day immunizations will be available because you do have to give your kids the requisite shots.
Representatives from the Girl Scouts, the Asian Community Development Council and the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum are some of the 30 booths at the FREE fair. I would have joined Girls On the Run Las Vegas or Horses4Heroes because I was a runner in my day and what young girl doesn’t love horses? Lots of kewl after school things to sign up for.
11 to 3.
Witness the Western Championship Tournament of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (South)

Speaking of horses….
The Lakota Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association is holdings its Western US Championship this week-end in Las Vegas at the South Point Arena.
Cowboys and cowgirls ride the most beautiful American quarter horses on a barrel-racing kind of course. But they have to shoot red balloons at a full gallop. The events are divided by rifles and shotguns.
Talk about skill. About 250 people are competing.
The FREE four-day event started Wednesday with the finals on Saturday night.
Of course there’s a shopping area (great stuff but NOT FREE. But there are only 149 days until Christmas….) Plus a poker tournament and Cowboy Church.
Get your dose of cowboys until the NFR arrives.
Findlay Honda Henderson’s Barbecue (Henderson)

I bought my CRV from Findlay Honda. Tomorrow they are having a Customer Appreciation event. FREE hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. Even FREE ice cream from Bizzy Little Bees.
A face painter will paint the kids faces as you drool over the gorgeous new cars.
I love this dealership. Judy Tweedy is my service advisor. She treats me like royalty. (Well, my nickname is Princess because I lived on Royal Lane in Dallas….) And they hire an Uber driver to take you home. I live in the southwest, so I truly appreciate that… ’cause all my friends are busy and I want to use my favors to get them to take me to the Ford dealership, which says you can just figure it out yourself after you bend over and ransom your car.
I love my CRV too. I drive it to Aspen, all 656 miles one way. The suspension makes the impossibly-long drive surprisingly comfy. The AWD feature handles those mountain turns like a champ. But I digress.
So eat a hot dog for me because I’ll be at a wedding.
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas.
