Happy Fourth of July! Ooops. I mean Labor Day. It is easy to get confused since it’s 112 outside.
Which is why these three days of fun are sizzling.
While the name entertainment of the Strip is often the price of a car payment (sometimes a house payment!), there are plenty of FREE things to do if you know where to look.
I, dear readers, have done the looking for you. Buckle up ’cause here we go!
How About Some Rock n Roll Church Music? (East)
You don’t have to go to a theater to hear amazing music. Las Vegas churches also produce some great sounds. Makes sense, since this town is burgeoning with great voices.
Central Christian Church, for example, has its own musical group. They even write their own songs. I love their uplifting voices.
But they are not the only ones.
Tomorrow night Christ Church Episcopal is hosting a musical event called Patio Nights. Four different groups will perform:
- Carpet Fragments is a trio that sings original rock, pop and a few tear-jerking ballads
- Oliver is a singer and guitar player
- Oz Eng sings
- Mariachi Moctezuma is a seven-member band that serenades
Patio Nights happens at the church patio on Maryland Parkway. Gates open at 6 with the music starting at 7. FREE!
Get this: the church encourages concert-goers to bring their favorite libations including moonshine! You can also bring picnics.
Belly Up to the Bar(re) (Henderson)
If church isn’t your thing on Sunday, you can get religious about fitness. The|District at Green Valley Ranch Station Casino is starting its Fitness on the Green this Sunday.
The classes start at 10 am on the Green behind Whole Foods (across the street from the casino itself.) The|District’s fitness providers are supplying their expert staff for the classes.
Barre, yoga and pilates classes rotate every Sunday through October 23. FREE! You do have to bring your own yoga mat.
FREE Pizza Anyone? (Southwest)
We all know and love Monday because it’s Labor Day and we laborers get the day off. But Monday is also National Cheese Pizza Day.
Bonanno’s New York Pizza Kitchen believes that’s something worth celebrating.
It will give you a slice of gooey, cheesy, magnificent pizza all day at its Craig Road and Hualapai Way locations.
The slices are not FREE but they are only a $1, so that counts in my book.
The pizzeria is open from 11:30 to 9. Mange. Mange!
Have a GREAT Labor Day weekend Las Vegas.
P.S. Movie tickets tomorrow are $3. It’s National Cinema Day and the movie theaters want you back and not watching Netflix!
