Aren’t we lucky to be facing another ah-mazing week-end in Las Vegas?
The Life Is Beautiful festival is back for its ninth run this week-end. The three-day music and food confab is an impressive immersive experience for attendees. Life is not so beautiful if you need to go downtown because all the streets surrounding the festival are closed. So I will be sharing nothing about downtown this week.
The Friday All In pass is $1,669 and is all sold out. Regular passes are $380 plus fees.
But there is plenty to do in this town this week-end that is FREE. This is important to know with inflation at a 40-year-high. It is my job, dear readers, to find these events for you and spare you the hassle of massive traffic jams.
Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Mellow Out to Jazz in a Sushi Place (Southwest)

Sushi and jazz aren’t the usual pairing. But that’s just why it works at Maxan Jazz.
The proprietors of Maxan Jazz believe “a great night out is encapsulated by the entire experience from start to finish,” according to their web site. (We forgive them for the grammatical sin of using the passive voice. But I digress.) We agree on the experience part!
Besides serving up California rolls and hamachi, the restaurant at Decatur and Flamingo offers live jazz six nights a week. (They have no-music Tuesdays.)
Tonight Noybel Gorgoy is the main attraction. She was the back up singer for Clint Holmes when he had a Strip residency. She has the pipes.
And guess who her band is? Steven Lee on guitar, Derek Jones on bass, and Ramses Rodriguez on drums. Lee, who was the lead guitarist for Donny & Marie for years and now is in the Raiders House Band, is one of THE most talented guitarists in this city.
Did I tell you you get all this talent for FREE? The salmon rolls, my friends, are on you.
Enjoy!
Watch the Raiders! (Las Vegas Strip)

Right now, before the Mirage goes away, the Still is one of the kewlest places to watch football in Las Vegas. The bar likes to call itself “the best sports bar in Las Vegas.”
Them thars big words.
The hotel-casino built it out as the ultimate man-cave. There are 27 large screen TVs and 50 craft beers. Does that qualify?
Someone found a refurbished and then abandoned Airstream trailer in them thar Tennessee hills. Now it sits in the middle of the sports bar serving as an upscale kitchen. Now that is kewl.
Our Raiders play the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. The bar opens at 9 am so you don’t miss anything.
P.S. The Still serves breakfast on football Saturdays and Sundays.
Our Aces Are Just One Game Away!!!!! (Henderson)

When I moved to Las Vegas in 1996, we had no professional sports teams.
Then the Golden Knights arrived in 2017. I watched them lose the Stanley Cup in the last five minutes of the last game. Soooo close.
As a proud XX, wouldn’t it be wonderful that the women brought home the city’s first professional trophy?
Sunday we have that chance. The Las Vegas Aces are just one game away from that coveted trophy.
The city of Henderson, famous for its sports watch parties, is holding a WNBA Finals party this Sunday at the Water Street Plaza. Fun starts at 1. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Pack a picnic lunch.
Then watch the game on a 42-foot-wide screen.
There will be prize giveaways. A live DJ. All FREE.
And free champagne when we win. (I just made that up.)
Have a great week-end, Las Vegas!
