It’s Friday. Tom Jones is back in Vegas. So is Eddie Vedder. And it’s Pride week-end in Las Vegas.
The headliners in Las Vegas sometimes want a car payment to pay for a ticket to their shows. But fortunately for us there is a ton of fun things to do FREE. (One reason I moved to Vegas!) It’s my job to suss those out for you every week.
Buckle up ’cause here we go!
Watch Art in the Making at the Summerlin Festival of Arts (Summerlin)

Tomorrow and Sunday Downtown Summerlin hosts its FREE outdoor Festival of Arts.
This year, the 26th for the festival, over 100 artists will be there to peddle their wares.
I personally get all my original art from friends who went to Pinot’s Palette, drank lots of wine and didn’t want their final treasure. I have an entire gallery. But I digress.
One of my favorite things is the student art demonstrations. Budding artists from Alexander Dawson School, Bishop Gorman High School and The Meadows School will show you how they paint, draw, make ceramics or fashion cold wax sculptures. These kids are good!
If you don’t like art there will also be:
- Balloon artists
- Face painters
- Dance presentations
- Kids activities
If you missed Henderson’s classic car show last week-end, here’s a mulligan. Saturday the festival features The Art of the Class Car from 10-2. My favorite classics will be there because The Mustang and Classic Ford Club of Las Vegas is hosting.
For the cooks, there will be a Farmers Market both Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 5.
Plenty of FREE parking though you may have to hoof it since there will be crowds.
Friends, there are only 79 days to Christmas. Just saying!
If Crafts Are More Your Thing (Henderson)

I love buying kewl crafts as Christmas presents because no one can figure out exactly what you paid for their gift. Las Vegas Craft Shows’s Unique Craft Boutique is Sunday at The Pass Casino.
Entry is FREE and so is the covered parking. (You must enter from Atlantic Street.)
Sunday starting at 10 to 4.
The best part: There will be FREE drawings so you may end up with a FREE item.
Boogie to a Horn Band (Henderson)

To me a wall of horns adds muscularity and power to any song. Half the musicians in this 10-member band are horn players.
The Soul Juice Band combines soul, funk and rock. In addition, they write their own songs instead of just playing covers. They just released “Funky like that” on Apple Music.
Tonight Friday they perform from 8 to 11 at Sunset Station. FREE.
Enjoy Free Music on the Patio (East)

If you want a taste of Rat Pack Las Vegas, one of the only venues left is Casa Di Amore. It still serves hearty Italian fare although at current 2022 prices.
The restaurant has always had live music during the dinner hours. Really good singers stroll the restaurant like troubadours.
This is the recipe for a great night out.
But there was unused square feet at the rear, so the owners opened Tiki Di Amore, which is a tiki hut attached to the back of the restaurant. The owners hired locals 3Specialty Design Services to create a Tikipus whose eye will stare you down if you misbehave.
Currently it is the only outdoor tiki lounge in Las Vegas.
Tonight Rock You Up performs from 7 to 10 doing 70s classic rock.
No cover. But be warned. The Italian gravy smells wafting out of the kitchen will tempt your palate and your pocketbook.
Celebrate: First Friday Turns 20 (Downtown)

Happy birthday, First Friday. Next year you can legally drink in Las Vegas.
Downtown’s FREE local art, music and food festival turns 20 today. I attended the very first one. Wow! Two decades have flown by….
Tonight’s theme is “One World Through Art.” The features artist is Isaac Zevalking of Recycled Propoganda. I love the gallery’s Andy Warhol-like vibe. But the art on average costs $800 per piece. But you can look for FREE.
You can spend weeks walking around the festival; there is sooo much to see.
Parking, however, is a problem. You can book parking at the First Friday web site. I park at the city of Las Vegas parking garage and take the First Friday shuttle, which runs from 3 pm to midnight. (This is where I park for anything downtown.)
Have a great weekend, Las Vegas.
