If there is ever a weekend when you need FREE entertainment, it’s this weekend. Have you seen the Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials? OMG. I’ve already spend a whole month’s income.
Shopping is fun but not that fun. I have assembled some kewl things to do this Thanksgiving weekend that will cost you nothing.
Buckle up ’cause here we go.
Football. Football. Football (Downtown and the Strip)

I say po-ta-to, you say po-tay-to. We say soccer but the rest of the world calls it football.
I know yesterday was a great football day with three challenging match ups. But the rest of world is going football crazy because the FIFA World Cup 2022 is happening right now. It’s Super Bowl Crazy!
We tied Wales in our first match which does not augur well for our future prospects. But anything is possible. We’re playing powerhouse Britain as I pen this.
Even if we don’t progress, the games are worth watching. The best football there is. This week Saudi Arabia beat Argentina, the biggest upset in World Cup history. What else is in store?
In Las Vegas you can watch and bet on pretty much any sport. Where is the best place to watch the matches if you want to be part of the madness?
Try the Circa Sports Book at Circa Resort and Casino which will show the matches on its 78-million-pixel screen. The sports book will air all championship games, including early morning matches. If you want to reserve a lounger, that’s $25. But hanging out at the Sport Book is FREE.
The Dawg House Saloon and Sports Book at Resorts World is also hosting watch parties. Some of them will have live music between matches. A double bonus.
All this football happens through the championship match on Dec. 18.
P.S. I think I already told you about the time I enrolled in a German language school in Bavaria in 1974. The plane landed in Munich, so I decided to visit the famed Hofbrauhaus before taking the train south.
And guess what happened when I was sipping my first German beer? Germany won the FIFA championship! I will never forget the madness. And then I got hooked on football because what was this craziness all about????
Look But Don’t Eat the Gingerbread House (Strip)

The Conservatory at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino is a joy to visit any time of year. Master gardeners and artists create seasonal tableau all out of plants. It’s a spot known for serene in the madness of Las Vegas.
This year the Bellagio is displaying its traditional gingerbread house in the Conservatory. It sits in the middle of a bejeweled Faberge-esque egg so you won’t be tempted to pull off a corner. Oh, and there’s a pond that separates you and the delishishness. (It must have really been a problem last year….)
It took a team of 10 three months to bake this Victorian masterpiece. The house weighs 440 pounds. Philippe Angibeau, executive pastry chef of Bellagio, was the commander-in-chief of this enterprise.
He also created six-foot chocolate trees for the display, which you can’t eat either.
All this will be on display through January 1. FREE.
Listen to a 28-Year-Old Sing Standards (Downtown)

If you want to listen to what an old soul sounds like, head to the Parlour Bar at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino. Tonight and tomorrow night Michael Ross Nugent performs.
Nugent is 28. But he owns the standards his grandparents (great-grandparents?) loved. He also mixes in some contemporary songs in his sets.
The shows are definitely timed for millenials/Gen Z because they starts at 11:30 pm, past my boomer bedtime.
Have a great weekend, Las Vegas.
