Phew! We survived the excess of New Years Eve. Now it’s time to settle down to the routine excitement of everyday Las Vegas entertainment. Because it’s the weekend again!
So much to do, so little time. (Sorry Miguel Brown.) Las Vegas Strip entertainment can be expensive. But we have such a deep bench of talent there’s a wealth of entertainment for FREE.
It’s my job to suss out those opportunities. Buckle up ’cause here we go.
P.S. I am going to share things to do off the Strip because CES is in town and they take over. It’s like Dallas locals never go downtown on Texas-OU weekend.
Groove to an Earth, Wind & Fire Cover Band (West)

Guess what my three favorite songs are? “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, my life anthem, and “Boogie Wonderland” and “Fantasy” by Earth, Wind & Fire, my happy pills. I have no idea about it will be about, but my first novel will be called “The Twelfth of Never.” But I digress.
I will get to hear two of those songs tomorrow Saturday night FREE, thanks to Tyriq Johnson and Serpentine Fire, an Earth, Wind & Fire cover band. They will be headlining at the Naughty Ladies Saloon at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur.
I first heard Tyriq sing Fantasy when he was a guest at a Lon Bronson All-Star Band gig at Green Valley Ranch a decade ago. He has a brilliant falsetto and can hit those high notes at the end…perfectly. His rendition still sends shivers down my spine. IMHO it’s better than the original.
The band, whose name is the title of another Earth, Wind & Fire song, is Las Vegas’s premiere cover band for this group.
The venue still looks like it did in 1970. There’s a spacious dance floor and, as the night goes on and the alcohol kicks in, the dancin’ starts. The fun is infectious.
Show starts at 8. I’m the sassy one with long white hair.
P.S. Plenty of FREE parking.
Show Some Love to our Beloved Vegas Golden Knights (Downtown)

I shouldn’t admit this in public, but the Las Vegas Raiders do nothing for me. (That won’t change when they win a game.) But thanks for bringing the Super Bowl here in 2024.
My heart belongs to our first professional sports team, the Vegas Golden Knights.
Sunday at 2 The D Hotel and Casino is sponsoring a Fan Fest at the Fremont Street Experience. You’ll get a chance to meet some of the players and the coaches. Chance, the VGK mascot, and the VGK entertainers will do their thing.
Everything is happenin’ on the Main Street Stage.
If you’ve been to a game, you know the tickets can equal a car payment. But this event is FREE.
Go Knights Go!
Make a Night of Getting Rid of Your Christmas Tree (Jean)

If you had a live Christmas tree, you now have to figure out how to get rid of it. When I lived in Dallas, I had a 24-foot Bayliner on Lake Texoma. I would drop the Christmas tree in the water under my boat and then wait for delicious catfish to make it their home and eventually my dinner.
Here in Clark County there are many sites to deposit your Christmas tree to return it back to nature.
Or, you can join the Desert Overlanders, a group that enjoys the great outdoors. They organized a Christmas Tree Bonfire in the Jean Dry Lake Bed.
Load your tree up and meet in the dirt lot next to Camping World tomorrow afternoon. A caravan of cars will leave at 4:30 so you won’t get lost trying to find the bonfire site.
Then watch the flames lick the sky as we say good to Christmas 2022.
FREE. Kids welcome…but you do have to bring your own marshmallows.
Head to the Race Track for An Eye Check (Henderson)

Headlights are the eyes of your car. And just like eyes, head lights need routine check ups.
Sylvania has designed an EyeCARe by Sylvania (so clever) exam to get your headlights checked out.
The next event is at SpeedVegas, a 1.5 mile private racetrack that lets you rent supercars, go-karts and off-road vehicles to race on its track. You do have to book an appointment:
https://forms.gle/Lez1chQD9rYd2HAo7
The check up is tomorrow from 6 to 10. FREE.
I think it would be kewl just to be around all that supercharged rolling stock! And I’m going to book an appointment with my eye doctor. Thanks for the reminder!
Have a great weekend, Las Vegas.
