Las Vegas is (almost) back! To date 39 Las Vegas shows are performing right here in River, er, Sin City. IF we can get our virus numbers under control, the entertainment and music fun will return. Fingers crossed! (And keep wearing your mask…)
Here is your FREE fun for this week-end.
Super Summer Theater and Sondheim

After the productions at the Smith Center‘s Broadway Las Vegas series, the entertainment I missed most last year was Super Summer Theater.
You drive out into the mountains past Red Rock Canyon to its outdoor stage at Spring Mountain Ranch, a state park. SST performs one musical a month every week-end from June through September.
Everybody shows up early for an al fresco dinner you lugged from the parking lot. When the sun sets, the show begins. The productions are always world-class, Broadway-worthy. And you can’t beat the show in the sky–the stars twinkle out in the middle of nowhere with no ambient light to compete with their beauty.
Sometimes the wild mountain goats bleat — always at the most inappropriate time — making the show even more fun.
We can’t go to the theater, even outdoors, but SST is bringing theater to us.
Bill Fayne has put together a show celebrating Stephen Sondheim’s 91st birthday. You know the guy. Leonard Bernstein asked him to write the lyrics to West Side Story. He penned one of my favs, Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. (Saw it on Broadway with Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury back in 1979.) But I digress.
Bill Fayne, the founding tenor of the Las Vegas Tenors, has invited 15 Las Vegas singers for this on-demand performance. And it’s FREE.
The show will be online from tomorrow through April 5. Just go to the Super Summer Theater website http://www.supersummertheater.org/sondheim to enjoy.
THANK YOU, SST!
Test drive a Tesla

I don’t know about you, but I want one! Everyone I know who has one can’t stop raving about ’em.
Probably the closest I am going to get to one is tomorrow’s event at Tivoli Village in Summerlin. It’s the shopping center’s Tesla Ride & Drive event.
You have to be 18 years old. You have to have insurance. (naturally.) Just sign up here: https://www.tivolivillagelv.com/event_news/tesla-ride-drive-event/#
The Telsa folks are sanitizing each car after every test drive. And you must wear a mask. (Their rules.) No virus particles in that marvelous machine.
Celebrate Nowruz, Persian New Years

Nowruz means “new day” in Farsi. The 13-day festival starts tomorrow. It always begins at the vernal spring equinox (that’s when the sun crosses the equator so day and night are the same length.)
One of the traditions is for the entire family to jump through fire to cleanse the past and start a new year fresh. Count me out. Just thought I’d let you know in case you think this is fun.
On day 13 everyone goes outside for a sumptuous picnic. This everyone can do.
Happy New Year!
Happy Anniversary Scenic Brewing Company

Craft breweries have become a Las Vegas thing. Scenic Brewing Company on Desert Inn in the Lakes is a restaurant, sport bar and local brewery. It’s celebrating its second anniversary this week-end.
Currently Scenic Brewing keeps 13 local craft brews plus five of its own on tap. I loved a good coffee stout. That was when I was drinking beer before I burned off the tops of my vocal chords and that had to stop.
Tomorrow most of its own brews are on sale for $2. (Also free.) But the celebration is FREE!
Did I mention there are 33 TV screens there?
Have a GREAT week-end, Las Vegas!
