Yep, the casino company isn’t making enough money, so now it’s going to charge for parking and valet service at all its resorts except Circus Circus. That’s 37,000 parking spaces. They are taking away Las Vegas’s big bragging point: FREE parking at topnotch venues. The start date is April 1. And that’s no joke!
Pull out your credit card to pull out of these MGM Resorts International properties on the Las Vegas Strip:
Aria
Bellagio
Delano
Excaliber
Luxor
Mandalay Bay
MGM Grand
Mirage
Monte Carlo
New York-New York
Vdara
The fee is rumored to be $10 a day for self-parking and $17 for valet.
Here’s a good reason to buy a home in Las Vegas if you were on the fence: locals with a Clark County address will have a grace period before the pay-to-play policy goes in effect. There’s a move under foot to lobby for a permanent grace period for locals, but I’m not bettin’ on it.
I understand the new T-Mobile Arena and its new parking garage will put pressure on their other properties. But still, ouch, ouch, ouch!
What am I going to do? Of course I will pay when I go to the Strip to see shows or eat in Strip restaurants. But given the choice, I’ll play at the locals casinos just as a protest! There’s plenty to do in Las Vegas without ever going to the Strip.
Trust me on this one.
